Not all answers are dichotomous

Citizenship Amendment Act: Why you need religion as a label to define and identify cruelty?

Image
Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 is providing a path to Indian citizenships to persecuted Hindu refugees. As a secular country, how it matters, one is Hindu, Muslim or any other religion. Can't we coin the draft something like this: Anyone who is prosecuted based on religion and has spent a minimum of 5 years in India can apply for citizenship. You can get your citizenship after the evaluation of the authenticity of your appeal. It's a suggestion, and can also be further improved. Policies are the mental models, it gives the guidance of how we think and operate, it should be precise and unambiguous without room for confusion, and should give an objective truth that doesn't change with time. Allowing citizenship based on religion generates wrong mental models, and creates uncertainty for other religions. The first principle is don't allow cruelty, it doesn't matter whether you are Muslim or Hindu. Now, Hindus are being prosecuted by some Muslim countries, you never kn

Why scientists will join the democracy app?

Details of Fair democracy: https://iambrainstorming.wordpress.com/2019/01/09/from-hypocrisy-to-democracy-this-way-delegated-proof-of-stake-2/ Why will experts join the democracy network in the beginning? What are the Incentives?? 1) Professional Reputation Provide problems documentation of departments with evidence Provide solutions documentation of the departments with evidence Provide criticisms and solutions to the policies of departments Market the solutions in social media Even though its a replacement of present democracy, for now, it will be used to keep the present govt accountable if they are doing something wrong. Documentation will go through peer review, all the participants of the department can review it, with scientific professionalism. It's not like social media, you have to use every sound logic with providing references to your arguments. 2) Crowdfunding Department scientists and voters can crowdfund their solutions and gain incentives for solving problems through

All most all general knowledge books and questions are about parroting

Image
Books lack the depth, inquiry, reasoning and critical thinking, it is just about memorising names of persons and places, and dates through parroting the quizzes and questions. Students given to memorise names of famous artists Take for example: Book asks to name the national parks of India. What's the point in memorizing names of different national parks, if you don't know anything about ecology; if you can't see and feel the environment and lifestyle of exotic and endangered wildlife in that national park? In many entrances including B.Ed, GK in one of the subjects, and students end up parroting the names. It also takes a huge chunk of time in schools, what if it were used for more meaningful learning. Do the content help in transfer of learning? How questions and content needs to be designed? https://iambrainstorming.wordpress.com/2018/02/17/question-designing-should-be-brain-friendly-cue-based/ Features of great book: https://iambrainstorming.wordpress.com/2017/01/14/all

IIT JEE is a scam, it's not about intelligence but parroting and solving unnecessary formulas.

Image
In a usual physics book designed for IIT JEE preparation, each chapter contains an average of 50 complicated short cut formulas, and there are about 24 chapters, so in total there can be about 50*24 = 1200 formulas. An almost impossible challenge to be memorized by an average student, which makes the entrance so hard to crack. IIT JEE preparation is not about critical thinking, it's about remembering the formulas, and speed of executing the formulas. This is the 2018 solved paper: Not a single seems to have without formula. https://drive.google.com/file/d/16HkkgWtiOT7T4p0ajYhis9gTqBT2SPGo/view?usp=sharing Please go through the book: Paul Hewitt Conceptual Physics Each chapter contains not more than two to three important formulas, that's all required because all other short cut formulas are based on it. An example question from the book of Paul Hewitt, that helps you to understand conceptual understanding, not executing complicated formulas: An example sample of content that

Why students don't learn looping?

Image
The most difficult concept for teaching programming to new students is looping. Students often fail to understand looping because they don't run the loop in their head , and don't think what will be the value of the variable in each loop. The following way of commenting on the loop will help students to understand the loop quickly. Ask them to run the loop in the head, and then comment on what the variables will be in each step of the loop. Remember to maintain the format while writing the comment, don't use short cuts, it will hinder the understanding. Loops with comments squares = [] for value in range(1,11): #loop1 -> value=1, #loop2 -> value=2, #loop3 -> value=3 square = value**2 #loop1 -> value=1, square=1, #loop2 -> value=2, square=4, #loop3 -> value=3, square=9 print(squares) #loop1 -> squares=[], #loop2 -> squares=[1], #loop3 -> squares=[1,4] squares.append(square) #loop1 -> square=1, squares=[1], #loop2 -> square=4, squares=[1,4

Traffic rule violation and hefty fines

Image
Center has declared Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 using which different states are charging a hefty amount of fines from the citizen for violating traffic rules. Death and Probability: Death in the roads is about probability or chance. There are many ways to decrease the death rates in roads. It includes wearing helmets, following the signals, roads without potholes, wider roads. To follow signals, one needs to know and learn different kinds of traffic signals, and if you are driving on roads, you need to know the driving. For the purpose of evaluating driving skill and the knowledge about traffic signals, RTOs are providing the driving license. All these processes are meant for decreasing the probability of dying on the roads. But in reality, the probability is context-dependent. Take of example, you are travelling a short distance, in narrow roads where traffic is usually high, you can't drive faster than a slow cycle. Whats probability of dying here? The main cause of dea

Learning about Relationships, Emotions and Happiness

Image
What makes a good life? Lessons from the longest study on happiness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KkKuTCFvzI So what have we learned? What are the lessons that come from the tens of thousands of pages of information that we've generated on these lives? Well, the lessons aren't about wealth or fame or working harder and harder. The clearest message that we get from this 75-year study is this: Good relationships keep us happier and healthier . Period. Robert Waldinger, Psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, Zen priest Emotional Safety: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-RZYSTJAAo When we talk about discipline, a lot of time we are punitive because it's faster, restorative takes more time.  Using restorative measures is hard, because learning about emotions is hard, it requires lots of reading and research. Master most of the vocabularies of emotions. Study each of them in detail, learn about its definitions, compare and contrast the terms and find out subtle differences. Find out boo

Is hierarchy Inevitable?

Right-wing politics hold that certain social orders and hierarchies are inevitable, natural, normal, or desirable. Some of the definition of social stratification: Social stratification is a kind of social differentiation whereby members of society are grouped into socioeconomic strata, based upon their occupation and income, wealth and social status, or derived power (social and political). As such, stratification is the relative social position of persons within a social group, category, geographic region, or social unit. In modern Western societies, social stratification is typically defined in terms of three social classes: (i) the upper class, (ii) the middle class, and (iii) the lower class; in turn, each class can be subdivided into strata, e.g. the upper-stratum, the middle-stratum, and the lower stratum. Moreover, a social stratum can be formed upon the bases of kinship, clan, tribe or caste, or all four. What Is a Hierarchical Society? https://www.reference.com/world-view/hi

Stress, rote learning and multiple attempts of Board Examinations

Image
NEP2019 Draft Allowing multiple attempts for board exams of different subjects after semester end is unlikely to reduce the stress of students, it may further increase the burden of students, as they have to read all the chapters or topics of the subject again to score more. It will be better if they make chapter wise or topic wise exams, with a pass and fail system so that they have reattempt only those chapters which they have failed. It not only reduces stress, but students will master the topics. Classrooms can have mastery-based grading https://www.edutopia.org/article/blended-learning-built-teacher-expertise In mastery-based grading each topic content should be linked with tests, that checks the conceptual understanding of topics. Test shouldn't be used in isolation without content. No random test papers without content should be allowed in education system. KBC = CRAP, BULLSHIT, KQUESTIONS CSIR NET Dec 2018 Life Sciences In the metazoan cell cycle, metaphase to anaphase transition is regulated by the activity of 1) Cdk1/cyclinB 2) APC/C 3) Cdc25 4)Weel So, how this question is important. Let's find out about APC/C First APC is a short form of Anaphase-promoting complex, so you have to make a habit to memorize all the acronym. Do you know what is WAC? It is the Women Army Corps. Found this example from the dictionary. This is excerpt from Cell Bruce Alberts, Let me say the page number, its 360, Molecular Biology of Cell, 6th Edition. Do memorise the page number, question can come from any line. Also there is a chart for your help. Please regurgitate as many times as quickly as you can. Do you know how many proteins our biodiversity has, and every protein has a function, if you just memorized 10,000 protein names with its function, you can be genius to run any experiment on proteins.

Why startup funding through ICOs is more needed in developing country like India?

Image
To create entrepreneurs, India requires ICO (initial coin offering) and cryptocurrency. In India, most of the people are middle class, so funding for starting the business is one the biggest hurdle. Even if you have a brilliant idea, it's of no use, if you have no funding to implement your idea. Loan creates an immense burden on entrepreneurs as you have to repay it, and the condition becomes miserable if your idea fails with a large amount of loans. Here in ICOs, people are stakeholders of the idea. So, if the idea doesn't support the interest of people, its unlikely to be funded. It's similar to the crowdfunding system. How to tackle fraudulent ICOs? Smart contracts are open and transparent. You can view the smart contracts and all the transactions going on in it, openly. https://etherscan.io/contractsVerified What we need is an auditing system and return policy of cryptocurrency if your idea fails. The smart contract should have code to return the cryptocurrency under u

Building better cities

More than half of the world's population already lives in cities, and another 2.5 billion people are projected to move to urban areas by 2050. The way we build new cities will be at the heart of so much that matters, from climate change to economic vitality to our very well-being and sense of connectedness. Peter Calthorpe is already at work planning the cities of the future and advocating for community design that's focused on human interaction. Complicatedness of Sexuality

Image
Human sexuality is the way people experience and express themselves sexually. This involves biological, erotic, physical, emotional, social, or spiritual feelings and behaviors. Because it is a broad term, which has varied over time, it lacks a precise definition . Multidimensional components indicate a specific sexual orientation and can include whether an individual: Engages in sexual behaviour with men, women, both or neither. Feels sexual desire for men, women, both or neither. Falls in love with men, women, both, or neither. Identifies himself or herself with a specific sexual orientation. The complexity and ambiguity of defining sexual orientation. The complexity and ambiguity of defining sexual orientation result from the varying combinations and degrees of these four components. For example, how much sexual attraction to and experience with the same sex can someone have and still be heterosexual? And, vice versa, how much sexual attraction to and behavior with the other sex ca

The Velocity of Money for Beginners

Raising Taxes Very Rarely Results In As Much Revenue As One Expects You have to do it the hard way by improving the health of the economy, no alternatives. The best way to increase governmental tax receipts is to increase the health of the underlying economy so the velocity of money is higher.  Countries often find this out the hard way.  In the United States, individual states find it out the hard way, as well. https://www.joshuakennon.com/the-velocity-of-money-for-beginners/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q59tZKP0HME Quantity Theory of Money

Sex Redefined: The Idea of 2 Sexes Is Overly Simplistic

Biologists now think there is a larger spectrum than just binary female and male The baby was fine—but follow-up tests had revealed something astonishing about the mother. Her body was built of cells from two individuals , probably from twin embryos that had merged in her own mother's womb. And there was more . One set of cells carried two X chromosomes , the complement that typically makes a person female; the other had an X and a Y . Halfway through her fifth decade and pregnant with her third child, the woman learned for the first time that a large part of her body was chromosomally male . “That's kind of science-fiction material for someone who just came in for an amniocentesis,” says James Sex can be much more complicated than it at first seems. According to the simple scenario, the presence or absence of a Y chromosome is what counts: with it, you are male, and without it, you are female. But doctors have long known that some people straddle the boundary— their sex chrom

Domestic Violence

Image
Effects of domestic violence on children, result from witnessing domestic violence in a home where one of their parents are abusing the other parent, plays a tremendous role on the well-being and developmental growth of children witnessing the violence . Children who witness domestic violence in the home often believe that they are to blame, live in a constant state of fear and are 15 times more likely to be victims of child abuse. Close observation during an interaction can alert providers to the need for further investigation and intervention, such as dysfunctions in the physical, behavioral, emotional, and social areas of life , and can aid in early intervention and assistance for child victims. The physical effects of domestic violence on children, different than the effects of direct abuse, can start when they are fetus in their mother's womb , can result in low infant birth weights, premature birth, excessive bleeding, and fetal death, due to the mother's physical trauma

Stopping Plastic Menace

Image
Suggestion for stopping the plastic menace Double or triple the rate of plastics and Make counters for getting back the extra incurred charge by depositing the plastics Any seller can make such counter, keep the plastic sorted and return back the plastic to the company who has produced it. Generic plastic counters can also be made where any plastic can be deposited, and some incentives to the people, such as mobile recharge or money can be given. Questions and Answers: Will it work? Plastic crushing units were installed in the railway platform and 10 rupees mobile recharge was being offered for some time. But now these are not functional. It didn't work because we are not charging plastic with double or triple rates, in other words, we are not taxing for single-use plastic. If people are charged extra, a lot extra for plastic, they will return back the plastic for recycling to get back their money. Go on increasing the selling price of plastic, and return pricing of plastic till e
